HUNTINGTON, W. Va. (WMUL-FM) \u2014 On Thursday night, Marshall Women\u2019s Basketball will welcome the Georgia State Panthers to the Cam Henderson Center in a contest honoring Black History Month.<\/p>\n
The Thundering Herd has been on a tear as of late, winning its last three games against the likes of Central Michigan, South Alabama and Louisiana. The Panthers are the opposite entering the matchup, sitting on a four-game skid with losses to Troy, Arkansas State, Texas State and ULM.<\/p>\n
Marshall’s 88-81 victory on the road in Mount Pleasant, Mich. against the Central Michigan Chippewas was another historic performance for senior guard Timaya Lewis-Eutsey. Lewis-Eutsey scored 30+ points for the fifth time this season, dropping a career-high 36 points and 8 steals. She joins Notre Dame\u2019s Hannah Hidalgo as the only players in Division 1 with 35 points and eight steals in a game this season. She is one of six players in Division 1 this year to have five 30-point performances.<\/p>\n
Lewis-Eutsey, after the success against the Chippewas, was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week for the third time this season, marking the first three-time champion in Marshall history since Kristina Behnfeldt in 1998-99. She was also named as the USBWA National Player of the Week.<\/p>\n
Leading the way for the Panthers is junior Crystal Henderson, who earned her sixth 20+ point performance in the team\u2019s most recent loss, an 81-62 defeat against the UL Monroe Warhawks.<\/p>\n
The Panthers are led by eight-year head coach Gene Hill, who sits with an overall record of 101-129. The Thundering Herd is coached by second-year leader Juli Fulks, the former Division 3 National Champion at Transylvania holds an overall record in 21 seasons at 435-169, including 35-26 at Marshall.<\/p>\n
This is the battle of defenses, both teams are in the top 50 in Division I in forced turnovers per game, Marshall 39th (20.58), Georgia State 32nd (20.75). While in steals, Marshall is 14th (12.5) and Georgia State is 22nd (11.8)<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s Thundering Herd squad has already earned its second 20+ win season in three years and can tie for third most wins (21) all-time with a win over Georgia State.<\/p>\n
