(WMUL-FM)-\u00a0Ahead of the first ever Ballad of West Virginia Music Festival, WMUL-FM 88.1 will be spotlighting each artist set to perform on June 13th! Tune in every weekday ahead of the festival for a new\u00a0spotlight.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:false,&quot;134233118&quot;:false,&quot;335559738&quot;:240,&quot;335559739&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Up first we have the festival closing act, Kindred Valley.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:false,&quot;134233118&quot;:false,&quot;335559738&quot;:240,&quot;335559739&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Local indie folk band Kindred Valley is set to play at The Ballad of West Virginia, a celebration of Appalachian music and culture on June 13<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">th<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0at the Barboursville Amphitheater.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The band began as a trio, calling themselves Back Row Baptists\u00a0after meeting at Marshall University in 2020. Blake Lacy, Brett\u00a0McCoy\u00a0and Noah Freeman began releasing\u00a0singles but found their footing in 2021 with three new members:\u00a0Rachael and Jadon Hayes and Kaden Salmons.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">With three new members, the band decided on a new name. Now named Kindred Valley, Lacy and Salmons wrote an early version of the band\u2019s single \u201cWhistle\u201d during the group\u2019s first meet-up.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4878\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4878\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/wmul\/files\/kindred-valley-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4878\" src=\"http:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/wmul\/files\/kindred-valley-2-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/wmul\/files\/kindred-valley-2-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/wmul\/files\/kindred-valley-2-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.marshall.edu\/wmul\/files\/kindred-valley-2.jpg 526w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4878\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kindred Valley | Photo Credit Kindred Valley<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">With new perspectives and ideas, Kindred Valley released its fifth single, \u201cThe Wedding Song,\u201d in 2021.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">After almost two years, the group released its self-titled debut album at the end of 2022. This was followed by an EP titled \u201cWhat Was Left,\u201d\u00a0containing\u00a0ideas and songs inspired by their experiences of playing live together up and down the East Coast.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The band\u2019s newest EP, entitled \u201cThese Days,\u201d features singles \u201cPurgatory,\u201d \u201cGone,\u201d and \u201cChange\u201d.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Much of the music from Kindred Valley\u00a0can be categorized as acoustic folk\u00a0with\u00a0an evident\u00a0Appalachian influence.\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0like the perfect soundtrack\u00a0for a drive through Appalachia.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In addition to The Ballad of West Virginia, Kindred Valley\u00a0is set to play with Trampled by Turtles in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on July 15<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">th<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">A dream three years in the making, The Ballad of West Virginia festival features 10 artists from across the wild and wonderful state. <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">With genres ranging from Indie Folk to Southern Gothic to Appalachian Space Funk, the festival will take place on Saturday, June 13, at the Barboursville Amphitheater.
