Morgantown Softball Wins First Ever State Title<\/p>\n

SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WMUL-FM)- History was made in the Morgantown high school softball program on Thursday afternoon, as the Mohigans captured its first ever state softball title, defeating University 8-0 in the WVSSAC Class AAAA State Championship game at Little Creek Park in Charleston, W.Va.<\/p>\n
The Mohigans despite having the disadvantage of the No. 4 vs No. 2 matchup, dominated the Hawks from beginning to the end, in the matchup of schools from Morgantown.<\/p>\n
The Mohigan bats came alive early, scoring two runs in the opening frame with Carolina Mallow hitting a blooper into left field. The scoring continued in the third with Carper Messerly crushing an RBI triple into left field to score Madi Stone to give the Mohigans a 3-0 lead.<\/p>\n
Morgantown sealed the deal at the back end of the game, scoring five runs across the fourth through sixth innings.<\/p>\n
University showed a little bit of life in the first inning but stranded two runners on base.<\/p>\n
Leading the Mohigans to victory was starting pitcher Madison Wisemam going 6.1 innings, allowing just five hits and two walks.<\/p>\n
The Mohigan\u2019s proved that it was the best team in the Class AAAA bracket, as it did not allow a single run throughout the entirety of the tournament. This dominate stretch included wins against top-seeded Cabell Midland, George Washington, & Hurricane.<\/p>\n
The victory adds to what has been a successful academic year for Mohigan\u2019s athletics as it adds yet another championship to its trophy shelf, joining the football team that won the state title back in the fall.<\/p>\n
With the victory, Morgantown finished the season at 26-10, while University finished at 29-7.<\/p>\n
