Huntington,\u00a0W.Va\u00a0– Marshall men\u2019s soccer is back in action this weekend as\u00a0it holds\u00a0back-to-back\u00a0regular season contests at home for the first time.\u00a0<\/span> \u00a0<\/span>The Thundering Herd (2-0-2) are coming off a 3-1 win over Virginia Commonwealth University\u00a0that saw three different players score goals. <\/span><\/p>\n

Coming to town are the\u00a0Utah Valley University Wolverines (3-0-1) fresh off a draw against Omaha University, 1-1.\u00a0<\/span> Marshall has had an interesting start to the season, seeing a miraculous comeback against George Mason to draw, as well as the\u00a0win\u00a0against VCU. Thiago Apolinario is leading this Herd squad, netting a team high three goals through four games.\u00a0<\/span> The Wolverines have been red hot to begin their campaign, going 3-0 through three\u00a0games;\u00a0including a win over Santa Clara\u00a0University in their own backyard, 1-0. Spanish nationals Nil Grau and Jose Luis\u00a0Martin Montealegre are tied for the team lead with two goals apiece.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Herd has been an efficient machine on the season with seven different players netting goals and eight different players providing an assist.\u00a0Marshall has been potent when creating shots this season with 51 total shots\u00a0attempted, 23 of which have been on goal.\u00a0<\/span> Meanwhile, the Wolverines have had similar success in front of\u00a0goal\u00a0with 43 total shots, 13 on goal.\u00a0<\/span> \u00a0<\/span>Both sides have taken 21 corner kicks on the\u00a0season and\u00a0have a lengthy sheet of fouls with the Herd hitting the 60 foul\u00a0mark\u00a0and the Wolverines starting the year with 49.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In goal Marshall\u00a0freshman\u00a0Yurij Obert has cemented himself as the premier keeper for the side, already\u00a0providing 10 saves with a .667 save percentage.\u00a0<\/span> Opposite Obert, the Wolverines have seen split action between Jackson Medina and Kolby\u00a0Sessions,\u00a0who both have started two games and registered two saves.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Without a doubt, this contest will be a hard-fought battle\u00a0as the Herd is growing ever closer to conference play.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
