Huntington W.va –\u00a0Marshall Men\u2019s soccer began the night with a top 20 ranking and an undefeated record. It ended its third home game of the season with a loss and\u00a0its\u00a0spot in the top 25 on the ropes.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0Thundering Herd\u00a0(2-1-2) took on the Utah Valley University Wolverines (4-0-1) in a matchup of two stellar college soccer squads.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Wolverines came into the game just on the outskirts of the top\u00a025 and\u00a0left town\u00a0with a 2-1\u00a0victory\u00a0in enemy territory.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Utah Valley scored\u00a0the opening goal\u00a0in the 11<\/span>th<\/span>\u00a0before Marshall answered in the 24<\/span>th<\/span>. The Wolverines would score the game sealing goal right after halftime in the 46<\/span>th<\/span>\u00a0minute.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Herd played a clean game only fouling eight times to the Wolverines nine, while also\u00a0attempting\u00a011 corners to the oppositions two.\u00a0Utah Valley saw\u00a0the lone\u00a0bookings\u00a0on\u00a0the evening,\u00a0two\u00a0yellows given to defensemen.\u00a0However, the Wolverines were undeterred, sitting back in defense and relying on stellar play during Marshall\u2019s\u00a0numerous\u00a0set pieces.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Creation was ever present in Marshall’s attack as it\u00a0ended\u00a0the game with 20 shots, seven of which came on goal.\u00a0However, finishing was the bane of Marshalls\u00a0existence as Utah Valley keeper Kolby \u201cFish\u201d Sessions came up clutch with six saves, four in the second half.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Marshall controlled much of the contest but was unable to take true\u00a0hold\u00a0of\u00a0a game with a box score that paints a different picture\u00a0than the result.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Herd\u00a0is\u00a0moving on to greener pastures,\u00a0and the rolling hills of the Bluegrass State,\u00a0as Marshall travels to Lexington to face\u00a0conference foe\u00a0University of\u00a0Kentucky in a matchup that has massive Sun Belt implications.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Marshall is 9-12 against the Wildcats in program\u00a0history;\u00a0the last contest between the two saw the Herd win 4-1,\u00a0here in Huntington\u00a0only a year ago.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

That game is scheduled for September 18<\/span>th<\/span>, with\u00a0first\u00a0touch at 7 p.m.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
