Women\u2019s Volleyball Recap<\/p>\n

Huntington, W.Va.- Marshall women\u2019s volleyball entered Friday night on a three-game losing streak and protected home court for the Herd\u2019s first win since Sept. 5.<\/p>\n
The Marshall Thundering Herd took on the Morehead State Eagles in a matchup between two struggling volleyball teams going through losing streaks.<\/p>\n
The Herd (6-4) swept the Eagles (4-5) in straight sets with scores of 25-16, 25-21, and 25-20.<\/p>\n
The Herd started out on the wrong foot in set one dropping the first point to the Eagles but going on a 6-0 scoring run to make it 6-1. From there, Marshall started to break away from Morehead State as they went on a late 4-0 scoring run to make it 22-13 and closing the set out with a Maddie Smith kill.<\/p>\n
A highly competitive second set saw both squads fighting for momentum swings. After the score was tied up at 13, the Herd started to pull away from the Eagles going on a 5-1 scoring run. Marshall eventually put Morehead State to bed to go up two sets to zero on the Eagles putting them on the ropes.<\/p>\n
The third set was a back-and-forth match where both teams were knotted up 8-8. The Herd went on a 3-0 scoring run to put them up 19-13 and pulled away from there. The Herd would eventually put the Eagles away on a closing kill from Maddie Smith who had a game-high 17 kills.<\/p>\n
Marshall Head Coach Heather Stout wasn\u2019t surprised at all by the performance that Smith brought to the table.<\/p>\n
\u201cMaddie has just been one of the greatest grabs that we\u2019ve gotten to get here at Marshall\u201d Stout said. \u201cShe puts the work in; she does the time. So, every award, accolade that she is going to get for our team in that role, we expected it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Now Marshall will carry the momentum into a rematch heading to Morehead State on Saturday.<\/p>\n
