Invisible Children screening set for Monday, Nov. 2 in student center

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University chapter of a group called Invisible Children is sponsoring a screening of a documentary about child-soldiers in Uganda at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2 in the Don Morris Room in the Memorial Student Center on MU’s Huntington campus.

Brittney Withrow, president of Invisible Children at Marshall University, said young children are being kidnapped and trained as soldiers in Uganda by a group opposed to the government called the Lord’s Resistance Army. She is hoping 250-300 students will attend the screening, which runs for about 40-45 minutes and is free and open to the public.

“We are trying to make more people aware of the situation,” Withrow said, “and we want them to urge their senators and congressmen to co-sponsor a bill called the LRA (Lord’s Resistance Army) Disarmament and Northern Uganda Recovery Act, which ultimately will require President Obama to take action.”

The Marshall University chapter of Invisible Children was started in 2007 with a main goal of informing people about the situation in Uganda and raising money to help address it.
