Huntington native to speak at Marshall lecture series April 19

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Dr. Thomas T. Chadwick, professor of political science at Davis & Elkins College, is the featured speaker for this year's Paul D. Stewart Distinguished Lectureship in Political Science Series Friday, April 19.

The lecture series is an annual event named in honor of Paul D. Stewart, who served as chairman of the Marshall Political Science Department from 1960 to 1974. Chadwick will speak on "The Evolution of the British Labour Party in the 20th Century," in room 105 of Corbly Hall from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The event is free to the public.

Chadwick earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from Marshall before earning his Ph.D. from the University of Virginia. He is former president of the West Virginia Political Science Association and a recipient of the Lois Lathem Award as Outstanding Teacher at Davis & Elkins College. Before returning to West Virginia, Chadwick taught at Augusta College, in Georgia, and Virginia Commonwealth University.

Political Science Department Chair Dr. Simon Perry said Chadwick serves as a great example of what Marshall graduates can become and welcomes him back as a speaker.

"We think Professor Chadwick is a superb role model for our students," Perry said. "A few short years ago, he was a student here and now returns as a distinguished alumnus. We hope he will be an inspiration to our current students. Tom has a wry sense of humor - he will be an excellent speaker."

A dinner will be hosted by Pi Sigma Alpha, the political science honorary fraternity, in honor of Chadwick at 6 p.m. in the Four Seasons Catering banquet rooms, located at 905 Third Ave. Chadwick will then speak on "The Diversity of Political Science." It is open to the public, and reservations may be made by calling Professor Clair Matz at (304) 696-6636.
