Degrees Course Schedule Courses of Instruction

 

The Leadership Studies program provides preparation and continuing professional development programs and services for prospective and practicing leaders in public and private schools, related educational agencies, community based agencies, corrections and law enforcement.  The program area offers a Master of Arts degree in Leadership Studies and certification programs for the school principal, supervisor of instruction, and superintendent.  The faculty offer an Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) Degree in Education for superintendents, supervisor of instruction, and higher education administration, and a Doctor of  Education Degree (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership with areas of specialization in Public School and Higher Education Administration.

Graduates of the Leadership Studies program are expected to:  

  • Demonstrate the ability to visualize and convey the mission and goals of an agency.
  • Understand and apply the current knowledge base in leadership.
  • Demonstrate in management and leadership practice a decision-making process which includes a focus on purpose, assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to establish and maintain positive interpersonal relations among constituents and clients.
  • Develop and use communication strategies which support learning and encourage discussion and decision-making among constituents.
  • Implement organizational structures which accommodate the growth and development needs of constituents.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the use of technology in management.
  • Provide leadership for the development of programs, services, and practices which respond to cultural pluralism and special needs.
  • Implement programs, services, and practices which encourage and enhance staff development and growth.
