Bachelor of Science – Exercise Science

Exercise Science is a scientific field of study that focuses on the anatomical, biomechanical, biochemical, and physiological aspects with application to exercise.

Marshall University’s Exercise Science program includes instruction in Basic Science, Basic and Clinical Exercise Physiology, Biochemistry in Exercise, Biomechanics, Fitness Assessment and Exercise Prescription, Nutrition, Strength and Conditioning, and internship.

Marshall University Undergraduate Exercise Science students are well-prepared for certifications in exercise. Those certifications are:

–  The ACSM offers certifications in the following areas: Certified Personal Trainer® (CPT), Certified Health Fitness Specialist SM (HFS), Certified Clinical Exercise Specialist (CES) and Certified Group Exercise Instructor SM (GEI).

– The NSCA offers certifications for a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS)

In addition, students focus on one of two areas of emphases: Applied Exercise Physiology and Clinical Exercise Physiology. Applied Exercise Physiology Emphasis is for students who seek their careers as exercise and fitness specialists, while Clinical Exercise Physiology Emphasis is for students who seek postgraduate degrees in health and medical fields. Students and their advisors will select suitable courses for their own career goals.

Prospective students must meet the minimum criteria listed below to be considered for admission to the program:

  • Admission to Marshall University
  • Declared Exercise Science as a major, including preferred area of emphasis if applicable
