Biography
A 1983 graduate of Marshall University and former student-athlete on the Men’s Swim Team, Rusty Webb has remained deeply committed to Marshall through decades of service, leadership and alumni engagement. As a student, he was active in campus leadership, including the Marshall University Residence Hall Government Association, Student Government Association and Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Fraternity.
Professionally, Webb has spent more than three decades serving West Virginia as an attorney, public servant and community leader. He has served as counsel to the West Virginia House of Delegates Finance Committee and to the West Virginia Senate Committee on Finance. In 1996, he was elected to the West Virginia House of Delegates, where he served four terms. He later served on the Charleston City Council and then as a member of the Charleston Urban Renewal Authority (CURA) Board of Commissioners, which directs CURA’s operations and revitalization efforts. In 2006, he founded Webb Law Centre, PLLC, in Charleston, where he represents clients in personal injury, class actions, and mass torts.
Webb’s service to Marshall has continued well beyond graduation. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Marshall University Alumni Association and was active in the former MAC — Marshall Athletic Club of Charleston — which served as a precursor to the Marshall University Quarterback Club of Charleston. He later co-founded the Marshall University Quarterback Club of Charleston with former Marshall head football coach Bob Pruett. He also co-founded the Marshall Alumni and Friends Tennis Tournament in Charleston, for which he now serves as director.
Webb also serves as director of Thunder in the Mountains, a women’s open singles tennis tournament co-hosted by Marshall University and West Virginia University. The tournament features top high school and college tennis players from West Virginia and beyond. His leadership with Thunder in the Mountains reflects both his love of tennis and his strong commitment to promoting opportunities for women athletes.
Webb is a longtime Marshall season-ticket holder and donor to the Big Green Scholarship Fund. He previously served for many years on the Board of Directors of the Big Green Scholarship Foundation. He is also active with the Marshall University Foundation, the M Club, the Tip Off Club, the Marshall University Vision Campaign and the 2020 Club in support of Marshall Men’s Soccer. A strong advocate for women’s athletics, Webb has been an active supporter of Marshall Women’s Golf, Women’s Basketball, Women’s Tennis, Marshall Softball, and the Women’s Swimming and Diving Team. He also supports the Marshall Fishing Team.
Marshall University is also a family legacy for Webb. His mother, sister, niece, father-in-law, mother-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, wife, stepsons and daughter-in-law have all either attended or graduated from Marshall University, reflecting a deep and lasting family connection to the university.
In his leisure time, Webb enjoys playing tennis and fishing in West Virginia’s rivers, streams, and lakes.
His long record of public service, professional leadership, alumni involvement, support for student-athletes and family commitment reflects a strong dedication to Marshall University, its students, alumni, athletics and the broader West Virginia community.
