Biography
Susan Tusing, D.M.A., is Marshall’s Chief University Accreditation Officer. In this role she oversees institutional accreditation compliance activities and reporting with the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and maintains records regarding the status of Marshall’s program-accredited academic programs. Dr. Tusing also serves as the university’s HLC Accreditation Liaison Officer and is a member of HLC’s Peer Corps.
In 2022 Dr. Tusing was named an Academic Affairs Faculty Fellow to initiate preparations and serve as lead assurance argument writer for Marshall’s 2026 HLC (10-year) comprehensive evaluation. Her experience with program accreditation includes heading two university music units accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM), serving as a NASM visiting evaluator, and providing past leadership in NASM as regional chair and vice chair and as a member of the NASM Board of Directors.
Dr. Tusing came to Marshall in 2017 as the Director of the School of Music, a position she held until 2021. Her previous faculty appointments include Clayton State University (Georgia), where she served as Chair of the Department of Visual and Performing Arts for eight years; Andrew College (Georgia); Texas A & M University-Kingsville; and State University of New York at Plattsburgh.
As a music professor, Dr. Tusing performed frequently as a solo and collaborative pianist. She has been active as a clinician, conference presenter, and adjudicator for numerous state and regional music events and has held several statewide offices in music educator associations. While at Andrew College, Dr. Tusing was the principal grantee and project director for a Fulbright-Hays Group Project Abroad funded by the U.S. Department of Education; this initiative provided a month-long professional development travel experience in Russia, Latvia, and Lithuania for fifteen educators from Georgia and other Southeastern states. Dr. Tusing holds music performance degrees from Arkansas State University, the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and Louisiana State University, and she is a member of the Phi Kappa Phi and Pi Kappa Lambda honor societies.
