Marshall’s HLC Comprehensive Evaluation- January 26-27, 2026

Marshall University has been an accredited member of the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) since 1928. Ongoing university accreditation is required and helps Marshall to demonstrate that we maintain recognized standards of excellence, that the future value of a degree from Marshall endures, and that our students can continue to be eligible to use Federal financial aid to attend Marshall.
Marshall’s 10-year Comprehensive Evaluation is important to our continued accreditation and relationship with the HLC.

The visiting evaluators for our Comprehensive Evaluation are:
  • Dr. Roberta C. Teahen, Ferris State University
  • Dr. Rebecca C. Zolotor, Purdue University Global
  • Dr. Ashley Simpson, University of Northern Colorado
  • Dr. Mark Arant, University of Louisiana at Monroe
  • Dr. Jonathan S. Overocker, University of Nebraska-Lincoln
We will finalize and announce the visit schedule in January. Certain meetings will include required and/or recommended participation by specific individuals, and there will also be open forum sessions to which the entire campus community will be invited.
Following are linked documents with information and discussion points for preparation for these meetings.

Draft Assurance Argument for
Marshall’s HLC  Comprehensive Evaluation

The latest draft of Marshall’s Assurance Argument for our upcoming HLC Comprehensive Evaluation for re-accreditation can be found here. The finalized document will provide to HLC reviewers our “argument” that we meet HLC Criteria for Accreditation.

You are encouraged to read all or parts of the Assurance Argument to learn about the scope of the HLC review and the information we will provide to the reviewers. If you would like to offer feedback on this document, you may do so through Friday, November 7 with the Qualtrics survey linked here.

Please continue to refer to this page and to the University Newsletter emails to learn of opportunities to participate in the accreditation site visit on January 26-27, 2026.
