The institute will be located in the 4th Avenue Innovation District of Huntington and will serve as an important anchor for the area. The institute will house state-of-the-art cyber security technology and training programs, and will become a cyber locus where industry from throughout Appalachia and the country can find training, mentoring, and learn the most up-to-date cyber trends. The institute is expected to create hundreds of new jobs and help to fill the growing demand for cyber security professionals in West Virginia and beyond.

Marshall University is already a leading cyber security academic institution in Appalachia. The university has been selected as a Center of Excellence for Cyber Security by the U.S. Cyber Command, as well as a Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense by the National Security Agency. The new institute will build on Marshall’s existing strengths in cyber security and position the university as a national leader in the field. The institute is expected to be completed in 2025.
