We are grateful for the all the dogs who have participated in the MU PAWS Therapy Dog Program. Below are therapy dogs who have retired, moved on to other opportunities, or have passed passed away.
Howie
Dr. Howard Joseph Watson, A.K.A. Howie, was part of MU PAWS for two years while his handler, Casey Watson, studied in Marshall’s Clinical Psychology (PsyD) program. During this time, he became a supportive and calming presence in the department’s Psychology Clinic, the Center for Healthier Aging Initiatives in Appalachia, and local nursing homes. That is why the Department of Psychology gave him the title of Doctor. You can read more about this here. This outstanding work was all in addition to MU PAWS. As part of our program, he spent regular Paw-ffice Hours in the Wellness Center, the Twin Towers Residence Halls, and events across campus. A weekly fixture in the Towers, he brought joy to students with his good nature and often cheeky personality. They rewarded him with limitless scratches, snuggles, and high fives.
Howie is now a therapy dog at the Ball State University Counseling Center where Casey is completing a yearlong clinical internship before graduating with her own doctoral degree. We miss both Howie and Casey but are excited for their bright futures helping others.

In Memoriam
Since MU PAWS launched in 2019, therapy dogs have brought boundless love to the Marshall campus community. They comforted us during hard days and brought joy during happy times. Although they are gone now, their pawprints will last forever. Please join us in remembering the special souls that have since crossed the rainbow bridge.
Lily (2014-2024)
Lily was adopted as a puppy and immediately became obsessed with her human. As an original dog in the MU PAWS program, she was the longtime “Bestest Girl” in Housing and Residence Life where her handler works. Lily loved visiting the residence halls and meeting students during her campus walks. Both in person and through Instagram, she had a loyal following. In any situation, she had an innate ability to find the person who needed comfort the most. Nothing made Lily happier than chest rubs and treats. She was given lots of both and deserved all of them.
Handler: Mistie Bibbee
Juner (2011-2024)
Juner was adopted from the shelter at six months old. From day one, he was sweet, gentle, and loyal. An original MU PAWS dog, he especially loved attention from students, both in the Student Support Services office where his handler works and the many places on campus he visited. Juner’s affectionate nature earned him the title of “Bellyrub King.” He was also a leisure king. Instead of playing fetch or chasing toys, he preferred being around humans, lying on his porch watching kids and dogs play, and cuddling on the couch at home.
