Biography
LTC Matt Heath was born in southern Virginia and raised in the Charlotte area, North Carolina. In 2008, he graduated from Clemson University with a Bachelor of Science in Finance and was commissioned as an Infantry Officer.
As a lieutenant, he was assigned to the 82nd ABN Division where he served as a Rifle Platoon Leader and as an HHC Executive Officer. As a Captain prior to the Maneuver Captain’s Career Course, he served two years as a Ranger Instructor in the Swamp phase of Ranger School, 6th Ranger Training Battalion located at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida.
While conducting MCCC at Fort Benning, GA, he additionally earned a Masters of Science in Organizational Leadership from Columbus State University.
Following MCCC, he was assigned to 173rd IBCT (Airborne) in Vicenza Italy. He served 17 months as a Weapons Company Commander and an additional 13 months as a HHC Commander. Following company command time, he served one year as the Aide-de-Camp for the Army Africa Commanding General, headquartered, at that time, in Vicenza, Italy.
Upon graduation from the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, he was assigned to the 4th Ranger Training Battalion where he served 12 months as the Battalion Operations Officer and as the Battalion Executive Officer, respectively. He remained at Fort Benning and commanded a Company in the 1st Security Force Assistance Brigade (SFAB) for 36 months leading Security Cooperation missions to Central and South America prior to his current assignment as the Marshall Army ROTC Professor of Military Science.
LTC Heath’s notable awards and qualifications include the Iraq Campaign Medal, Bronze Star, Ranger Tab, Expert Infantryman’s Badge, Master Parachutist Wings, Pathfinder Badge, and Air Assault Badge.
LTC Heath and his wife Jenny celebrated their two-year wedding anniversary this past October and are very pleased to call Hurricane, West Virginia their home.
