Biography

Major (MAJ) Tyler S. Gibson serves as the Marshall University ROTC Program Assistant Professor of Military Science that strives to develop and commission the best of the best Cadets into the U.S. Army.

Commissioned through Penn State ROTC in 2014, MAJ Gibson earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and went on to serve as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) technician and officer in the Active Duty Army.

He served in multiple EOD leadership roles, including platoon leader, executive officer, commander, and EOD Team Leader. During his first deployment to Afghanistan, he helped clear over 2,559 miles of explosive hazards, enabling freedom of maneuver for U.S. and coalition forces.

He later served as the Counter-IED Integrator for 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne), developing and delivering explosive hazard training to over 1,300 personnel. During his second deployment with Special Operations Task Force – Afghanistan (SOTF-A), he battle-tracked combat missions, coordinated large-scale explosive destruction, and served as an EOD Team Leader for a team of Green Berets against ISIS fighters in Nangarhar, earning the Combat Action Badge.

Hand-selected for command of the 62nd OD Company (EOD), then, Captain Gibson led the unit through a multi-million dollar training rotations at Ft. Polk, LA, and assuming the state side EOD response mission aiding federal and local law enforcement with the removal of ordnance and explosive hazards throughout Colorado and Wyoming.

MAJ Gibson is an avid hunter, loving husband and dedicated father to two young girls.
