Face-to-Face Appointments
The Marshall University Writing Center is staffed with graduate and undergraduate students ready to help you at any stage of the writing process. Tutors can be consulted on any writing assignment from any discipline. Face-to-face appointments will take place on the second floor of Drinko Library.
Instructions for Making Face-to-Face Appointments
- Go to http://marshall.mywconline.com/.
- Select “Click here to register” if you are a first-time user and follow the prompts to process your registration.
- Once you have registered, you may log in to make an appointment. The white boxes indicate tutor availability, designated as “Open Time.”
- When you click on a white box, you will be prompted to submit information regarding your agenda for the tutoring session. Be sure to fill out the appointment form completely before saving the session. You will receive an email confirmation of your appointment.
- You may also make an appointment over the phone (if you are already registered in the online system) or by stopping by the Writing Center and speaking to the tutor at the desk.

Online Appointments
The Writing Center offers online consultations to students who cannot come to the Writing Center for face-to-face appointments. Students can choose to make synchronous (online) or asynchronous (eTutoring) appointments.
Online appointments can be made using our online scheduling system. See instructions below. For help making an online appointment, call The Writing Center during operating hours at 304-696-6254.
To create an online appointment
- Log on to marshall.mywconline.com to make your appointment.
- The white boxes indicate available times and tutors. Note that only certain tutors are available as “Online” tutors. Be sure to select your desired tutor from those specifically designated as “online.”Then, select your desired time slot by clicking on a white box.
- When you click on a white box, you will be prompted to submit information about your session. Be sure to fill out the appointment form completely.
- If your tutor is available for more than one option (face-to-face, online, or eTutoring), you will be prompted with the question “Meet Online?” Select “Yes–Meet online.” Save your form. You will receive an email confirmation of your appointment.
To start your live online appointment
- 5 to 10 minutes before your scheduled online meeting, log back into marshall.mywconline.com.
- Click on your scheduled appointment time (the box will be in red).
- Scroll down to the bottom of your appointment form, and click “start or join online consultation.”
- An online screen that allows chat and document-sharing will appear. Your tutor’s name will appear in the top right corner when he/she logs in.
- Follow the instructions on the screen to upload your paper, and start the appointment with your tutor.
- You can save changes to your document at any time during your session.
- You will be able to access a record of your online session at any time after the appointment ends by logging back in and selecting the appointment.

eTutoring Appointments
To create an eTutoring appointment
- Log on to marshall.mywconline.com to make your appointment.
- The white boxes indicate available times and tutors. Note that only certain tutors are designated as “eTutoring” tutors. Be sure to select your desired tutor from those specifically designated as “eTutoring” tutors. Then, select your desired time slot by clicking on a white box.
- When you click on a white box, you will be prompted to submit information about your session. Be sure to fill out the appointment form completely.
- If your tutor is available for more than one option (face-to-face, online, or eTutoring), you will be prompted with the question “Meet Online?” Select “Yes–Meet online.” Save your form. You will receive an email confirmation of your appointment.
- IMPORTANT! After you save your appointment, you will be asked if you would like to upload an attachment for your appointment. Select “yes” and upload your paper.
- You will receive an email when your tutor has finished commenting on your paper. Tutors have a 24-hour window to complete their feedback on your paper, so make sure to plan ahead.
Please note
- Submissions are limited to a maximum of 4 pages for half hour sessions and a maximum of 8 pages for hour-long sessions.
- You must be a student enrolled in Marshall University courses to work with an online tutor.
