A syllabus is an outline to the class you are taking, with a lot of information that will help you through the semester. Each professor will provide a syllabus to you, whether printed or online. You’ll want to be sure you review the entirety of the syllabus for each class you are enrolled in to be sure you understand what is required of you for the semester.

Features of a Syllabus

  • Instructor name, contact information, office hours
  • Course description
  • Required textbooks
  • Learning outcomes, practice and assessments
    • What you will learn, how you will learn it and how you will show you learned it
  • What is required of you and how you will be graded
  • University and course policies
  • Schedule of what to expect for the semester
  • Deadlines, assignments and exam dates

Where can I find a sample syllabus for my courses?

Students can access a previous course syllabi in myMU. Login to myMU, and under “Student Quick Links” select “Syllabi Repository.”

Select the term for the syllabus you want to view, then select the course discipline (MTH, ENG, etc.). Then, select the specific course section and instructor and click on the “view” button.

If you can’t find the syllabus for your class, reach out to your professor, teaching assistant or academic advisor for help.
