Biography

For nearly 20 years, Shannon has been an integral part of the Heart of Appalachia Talent Search program. As the program’s Administrative Assistant, her organization, attention to detail, and commitment to students can be seen in nearly everything HATS accomplishes.

Shannon does far more than keep the program organized. She assists with student records and digital platforms, coordinates events, works with campus and community partners, and helps turn ideas into meaningful opportunities for students. An active listener who genuinely cares about building relationships, Shannon is passionate about supporting first-generation students and helping them pursue their college and career goals.

Her connection to the HATS mission is also personal. As a low-income, first-generation college student, Shannon understands many of the challenges students may encounter on their journeys to higher education. She graduated from Ashland Community and Technical College in 2004 with an associate degree in Office Systems and later earned her Regent’s Bachelor of Arts with an emphasis in English Literature from Marshall University in 2014.

Outside of HATS, Shannon enjoys spending time with her three adult children and her first grandson. She also has a passion for antiquing and loves discovering unique treasures and pieces with a story to tell. And when she isn’t searching for her next antique find, you may find her listening to folk and country music, so be sure to share your favorite artist or song with her!
