Homecoming Schedule of Events

MONDAY, SEPT. 25

5:00 p.m. – Unity Walk & Homecoming Court Announcement
INFO: Students, teams, organizations, clubs, residence halls, faculty, staff and community members are welcome to join in this unifying walk around campus from the Marshall Rec Center to the Memorial Student Center Plaza to show their Marshall pride! Registered student orgs may compete in a banner competition for cash prizes by registering here. Immediately following the walk, the Homecoming court will be announced.

WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 27

7:00 pm – Ms. Captivating Pageant
INFO:
Black United Students Organization presents the Miss Captivating of Marshall University Scholarship Pageant, which was created for young college women to showcase themselves beyond beauty and further develop leadership skills, confidence and creativity. This event will be held in the Don Morris Room in the Memorial Student Center. Doors open at 6:30, event begins at 7:00 p.m.

THURSDAY, SEPT. 28

9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. – Office Decorating Contest Judging
INFO: Offices across campus are encouraged to decorate their space using the Homecoming theme Super Marco: Level Up! A tribute to video games throughout the decades, members of the MU Alumni Association Board of Directors and other volunteers will spend the day visiting offices to view and judge their decorations. Awards will be presented on Friday, Sept. 29, during Party on the Plaza.

10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. – WMUL-FM Car Bash
INFO: A university favorite! Join us for this annual event on Buskirk Field, as participants pay $1 to bash a car painted in Old Dominion’s colors with a sledgehammer for two minutes. Sledgehammer, gloves and goggles will be provided.

5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. – The Huntington Regional Chamber of Commerce 2023 Member Trade Show
INFO: The Huntinton Regional Chamber of Commerce is excited to host its 2023 Member Trade Show, presented by Huntington Bank from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Mountain Health Arena. The evening will feature networking, food and an open bar, raffle prizes and more! General admission tickets are $15.

6:00 p.m. – Hoops in Huntington
INFO: Check out the second annual Hoops in Huntington at Pullman Square, which highlights Herd athletics. The event features introductions from student athletes and coaches, fun activities for families and more!

9:00 p.m. – Wild ‘N Owt
INFO: Enjoy an evening of laughs with our improvisational comedy game in the Don Morris Room in the Memorial Student Center.

FRIDAY, SEPT. 29

11:30 a.m. – Party on the Plaza
INFO: Marshall’s largest and most exciting on-campus Homecoming party! Marshall University Marketing and Communications throws a party on the Memorial Student Center Plaza with free food and drinks, live music, games, plus special appearances by the Marching Thunder, Marshall University cheerleaders, coaches, players, Homecoming royalty and more! The event is free to alumni, students, faculty and friends of Marshall. Office Decorating Contest winners will also be announced.

12:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. – Parent and Family Weekend Registration
INFO: Stop by the Joan C. Edwards Playhouse on 5th Avenue to register for a full weekend of family fun and enjoy fare from local food trucks.

6:00 p.m. – Homecoming Parade
INFO: Floats, marching bands, and everything you love about parades fills the air on a Friday night! The parade begins on 4th Avenue in Huntington and ends at Harless Field. If you can’t make it, tune in on social media @MarshallU for a broadcast of the parade.

7:30 p.m. – Pep Rally & Bonfire
INFO: Marshall’s iconic Homecoming tradition! Alumni, students and community members are invited to Harless Field to enjoy a bonfire with music, food trucks and more! Homecoming parade float competition winners will be announced. There will also be special appearances by the Marching Thunder, cheerleaders, Marshall coaches and players!

6:30 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. – Homecoming StamFEED presented by Jenkins Fenstermaker
INFO: Enjoy all that Downtown Huntington has to offer as we tour some of the city’s best drinks and eats! Attendees will receive a commemorative Homecoming 2023 glass, sponsored by Jenkins Fenstermaker PLLC. The deadline to register is Sept. 22, so don’t miss out!

7:00 p.m. – Inaugural Black Alumni Hall of Fame
INFO: Marshall University Black Alumni is pleased to announce its inaugural Black Alumni Hall of Fame in the Brad D. Smith Foundation Hall. This event will honor the achievements of ten of the university’s most esteemed graduates. Tickets are $25 per person or $600 for a sponsored table.

10:00 p.m. – 2:00 a.m. – Sneaker Ball
INFO: Dress up in your coolest clothes and strut your flyest sneakers during the Sneaker Ball in the Memorial Student Center Lobby. For more information, contact Corey Cunningham at cunningha189@marshall.edu. This event is open to students, alumni and community members.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 30

3 Hours Before Kickoff – Marshall Alumni & Family Tailgate
INFO: The highlight of Homecoming week! ALL are invited to this wonderful tailgating experience, hosted by the Marshall University Alumni Association and Marshall University Black Alumni! Located in the Joan C. Edwards Stadium East Lot (beside the Chris Cline Indoor Athletic Facility), enjoy great food, hang with friends, play tailgating games, enjoy live music and performances by the Marching Thunder, Marshall University cheerleaders and appearances by special guests–including coaches and players.

3 Hours Before Kickoff – Parent & Family Weekend Tailgate
INFO: All attendees of Parent & Family Weekend are invited to join in the pre-game festivities with food and fun at the Memorial Student Center Plaza.

3 Hours Before Kickoff – Intercultural Affairs Family Gathering
INFO: Join the Intercultural Affairs crew three hours before kickoff on the East Hall Lawn for food and fun!

3:30 p.m. – Marshall vs. ODU
INFO: The Thundering Herd battles Old Dominion University in the annual Homecoming game at Joan C. Edwards Stadium!

8:00 p.m. – Greek Stroll-Off Competition
INFO: Greek life at Marshall will compete in the Greek Stroll-Off Competition, which showcases a team’s agility, creativity and understanding of rhythm and dance as they show precision, synchronization, originality and showmanship. This event will be held in the Don Morris Room in the Memorial Student Center. For more information, contact Corey Cunningham at cunningha189@marshall.edu.

8:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. – MUBA Black Out Alumni Party
INFO: After the Homecoming game concludes, cap off the week at Marshall University Black Alumni’s annual Black Out Alumni Party in BE-5 (Lower Level) in the Memorial Student Center. There will be a DJ, food and more!
