Prior to coming to campus, review all important information sent from Housing and Residence life regarding your room assignment and arrival details.

MUPD officers will be directing traffic on and around campus. You’ll be directed to your residence hall’s unloading zone.
It’s a good idea to familiarize yourself with the location of your residence hall and our campus prior to move-in day. The interactive map below is a great way to do this.
Unload Quickly & Park
Volunteers may be available to help with carts and boxes. After unloading, move your vehicle to long-term parking.

Check In and Pick Up Your Room Key
Students will be directed to check-in and pick-up their room key in their residence hall lobby. If available, students can also check-out carts to assist with moving large items.
Students should have their mobile IDs loaded and ready to use prior to arrival. For assistance, students should contact the Campus ID Office.

Move-in for Fall 2025 begins Tuesday, August 12.
- First-Year: August 12 & 13
- Upper-class: August 15-17
If you have a campus obligation or a travel restriction that requires you to move into the residence halls before the traditional move-in dates, you will need to submit an Early Move-In Request by 5 p.m. on August 1.
There is a $30 per day early arrival charge for double rooms and a $40 per day early arrival charge for single rooms.
If you are part of a group such as the marching band or an athletic team, your organization should be reaching out to you with specific details including to your move-in date and instructions. However, you will still need to sign up for a move-in appointment.
All students will be required to sign up in advance for a move-in appointment. Move-in appointment times will be enforced. Students are asked to arrive at the beginning of their time block so they can finish within their designated time block.
To sign up for a move-in appointment, please visit https://gems.marshall.edu/rms/fallmovein.php. Students will use their myMU username and password to log in.

If you need to change your time, you can log back into the system (using the same link) to do so. Appointments must be changed 24 hours in advance and cannot be changed the day of.
Please note, if you work with housing staff to change your room assignment after you’ve selected a move-in appointment, you will need to log into the system to schedule a new move-in time.
If you are traveling to campus and are delayed due to traffic, please contact the Housing and Residence Life office at 304-696-6765.
If you arrive without a scheduled move-in appointment or outside of your scheduled move-in time, you will not be able to access the building.
Absolutely! While we have not limited the number of people that you can bring with you, we do ask that you be considerate when selecting who to assist you and try not to bring more than two or three people. Limiting the number of people you bring will help with crowd control on move-in day.
Yes, we are currently recruiting volunteers to assist with move-in. The number of volunteers during each move-in time slot will be limited to help with crowd control.
Each building will have carts available on a first-come, first-served basis to assist you with moving in. The number of available carts is limited and cannot be guaranteed. We encourage you to bring any equipment such as hand trucks/dollies that you might find helpful.
Marshall University Police Department staff will be on hand to ensure that traffic is kept moving and that you will be able to temporarily park and unload your belongings as close as possible to your residence hall (preferably for 5-15 minutes). After unloading, you will be expected to move your vehicle to an available parking spot.
- Students moving into First Year North and South residence halls are encouraged to park in the stadium parking lot across from our Marshall Campus Recreation Center or the parking lot located beside our Sorrell Building and behind Fat Patty’s Restaurant.
- Students moving into Marshall Commons are encouraged to park alongside 6th avenue or in the parking lot found at 18th street and 6th avenue.
- Students moving into Twin Towers East and West or Buskirk Hall are encouraged to use the parking lot found at 5th avenue and 19th street.

If you visit our What to Bring page, you’ll be able to find a list of suggested items to bring and items prohibited in the residence halls. The list can also be found in the Residence Hall Guide.
Before move-in, communicate with your roommate to discuss what each of you plan to bring. By having these conversations, you can help free up space in your room by not duplicating items such as refrigerators, TVs, etc. Additionally, items like winter clothes can always be brought later in the semester once you determine when they are needed.
Please take all trash from move-in to the dumpsters located outside of the residence halls. Please cardboard in the designated areas. All cardboard MUST BE FLATTENED.
Clearly mark your items with your name, residence hall, room number and cell phone number in the event your items get separated from you or our move-in volunteers are helping you with your items.
Coordinate with your roommate(s) in advance to discuss shared items to avoid duplicates of larger items like televisions, refrigerators and microwaves.
Roommate information for First Time Freshman is sent in June in the room assignment email.
