The Marshall University Research Corporation and Occupational Safety Program Advisory Board will host the 2023 Marshall Safety Conference from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, in the Don Morris Room of the Memorial Student Center on Marshall’s Huntington campus.
Participants can hear from speakers in the occupational health and safety industry, including luncheon speaker Scott McKenna, president of Catamount Consulting and a nationally known speaker on current safety management trends and topics. He is a certified instructor with the Mine Safety and Health Administration and an OSHA-certified construction trainer with more than 24 years of experience in the fields of mining and construction.
Additional speakers include Stacy Spector and Diana McCoy. Spector is a Catamount leadership super trainer with extensive experience presenting to national conferences and organizations on the topic of engaging leadership. Her mission is to help people develop stronger, more connected human relationships in the work environment. McCoy is a Marshall alumna with 36 years of experience working in the field of workers compensation injury management and safety management integration and prevention strategies. She focuses on educating employers on the applied processes for basic, effective injury prevention and safety management through proactive and retroactive principles.
Participants in this yearly event also have the opportunity to network with safety professionals from local industry and well-known national corporations.
A pre-conference reception is part of the event as well. It will take place from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, in the Arthur Weisberg Family Applied Engineering Complex.
“Our annual conference has grown over the years,” said James McIntosh, chair of Marshall’s Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering. “Attendees include national speakers, local and corporate safety professionals, students and alumni. The conference is sized and designed so that sessions that cover current safety topics but give attendees an opportunity to network and learn with other professionals as well as interact with students.
