The Marshall University School of Music will present the Greek ensemble Galan Trio in “Kinesis: A Concert of New American Works for Piano Trio” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, in Smith Recital Hall. The concert is free and open to all.

Galan Trio includes Babis Karasavvidis on violin, Marina Kolovou on violoncello and Petros Bouras on piano. They will be performing works by Navid Bargrizan, Chelsea Loew, Anne Neikirk, Charles Nichols, Sophia Serghi, Damon Sink and Mark Zanter.

Galan Trio tours Greece and abroad, performing with prominent Greek orchestras including the National Opera of Greece, the Athens State Orchestra and others.

The trio’s visit to Marshall is sponsored by the College of Arts & Media’s Joan C. Edwards Distinguished Visiting Professor of the Arts program, the School of Music and the School of Art & Design.

In addition to their concert performance, the three musicians will be in residence at the School of Music for Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, meeting with students and conducting masterclasses.

“We are excited to present this concert of new works performed by the acclaimed Galan Trio and are thrilled that they are available to work with composition, string, and piano students in a masterclass setting,” said Music Professor Dr. Mark Zanter. “The Edwards Distinguished Visiting Professor of the Arts program enables us to offer programs featuring world-class artists to all schools within the College of Arts & Media, and we are confident that this programming will have a profound and long-lasting impact.”
