Brass Band of the TriState to perform Oct. 21

Share
The Brass Band of the TriState will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, in Smith Recital Hall on the Marshall University campus.

Under the direction of Dr. Michael Stroeher, professor of low brass at Mashall, it is the only band of its kind in the Tri-State area and will perform pieces ranging from Renaissance music to Dave Brubeck compositions.

“Brass bands were originally started in Great Britian as a wholesome activity for factory workers and adapted to worship music by the Salvation Army,” he said. “We will be playing two pieces from that Salvation Army tradition, including a beautiful arrangement of ‘Amazing Grace.’ There is also a piece based on a set of Renaissance dances. The concert will end with my own arrangement of Dave Brubeck’s ‘Blue Rondo a la Turk.’”

The concert is free and open to all.
