“Our goal for the mobile unit is to bring services to the community and meet people — quite literally — where they are,” said Hollyann Johansen, MAT division director at Westbrook Health Services. “We recognize the need for services in rural West Virginia, and this is our way to accommodate those who cannot travel for care. One of the biggest barriers to treatment is transportation, and our hope is to remove that barrier.”
The mobile unit officially launched Oct. 6, 2025, at Sportsman’s Park in Elizabeth, Wirt County, bringing critical behavioral health and recovery services directly to rural communities across West Virginia.
The unit is equipped to provide:
• Medication-assisted treatment: Telehealth appointments for medication management.
• On-site care coordination: Case management, peer recovery support and nursing services.
• Therapy and mental health services: Counseling and medication management appointments, depending on scheduling.
• Urine drug screening: Conducted in accessible restrooms at the park for client convenience.
“We’re excited to see how the community embraces this service,” said Jessica Tackett, project director of the MAT Access Grant. “We believe this mobile unit will not only improve access to recovery and mental health services but also open new opportunities for bringing additional resources to rural West Virginia.”
The mobile unit will be stationed at Sportsman’s Park in Wirt County every Monday from 9 a.m. to noon. Community members are encouraged to stop by to learn more or access available services.
