Marshall University’s School of Theatre & Dance will present Steve Martin’s “Picasso at the Lapin Agile” at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 19-22 in the Francis-Booth Experimental Theatre at the Joan C. Edwards Performing Arts Center.

This clever comedy written by comedian and actor Steve Martin portrays what might occur if young Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso met in a Paris bar in 1904, before becoming world famous. As they talk and argue about science, art, love and the future, the bar fills with quirky characters and surprising ideas.

The play is directed by T. Michael Murdock, artistic director of Alchemy Theatre in Huntington. The cast includes George Kinley, Thaddeus Stambaugh, Daniel Calwell, Eliza Aulick and Xaniya Gray.

“Audiences enjoy Steve Martin’s ‘Picasso at the Lapin Agile’ because it’s the perfect blend of intellect and comedy — a smart play that never takes itself too seriously,” said Sam Kincaid, project coordinator for the School of Theatre & Dance. “It’s funny, fast-paced and full of heart.”

Immediately following the opening night performance on Nov. 19, there will be a short discussion about Picasso’s work with Maria Gindhart, dean of the College of Arts and Media and an art historian.

Tickets are $22 for general admission, $15 for seniors and Marshall employees, $5 for students and free for students who attend the opening night performance on Nov. 19, with an MU ID. For ticket information, call 304-696-ARTS.
