A Platinum Seal of Transparency is the highest level of recognition Candid awards to nonprofits. Fewer than 1 percent of U.S. nonprofits receive this seal, and nonprofits with a platinum seal are viewed twice the amount than those of nonprofits without them. Having a seal is associated with an average of 53 percent more in contributions.
According to Candid, earning the seal signifies a nonprofit’s commitment to providing thorough information about its operations. The seal helps prospective donors and funders make informed decisions by providing them with detailed information about the organization’s performance and impact.
“We are incredibly proud to have earned Candid’s highest recognition — the Platinum Seal of Transparency,” said Nico Karagosian, president and CEO of the Marshall University Foundation. “This distinction represents the highest level of trust and accountability a nonprofit can achieve through Candid. It reflects our commitment to transparency, responsible stewardship and the impactful use of resources entrusted to us by our donors and supporters. We are deeply grateful for the confidence placed in us.”
Founded in 1947, the Marshall University Foundation manages more than $300 million in assets. The Foundation’s priorities include enhancing private support and celebrating lasting impact, fostering and cultivating relationships to strengthen and sustain alumni engagement, and prioritizing transparency, financial stability and operational excellence.
Candid was formed in 2019 when GuideStar and Foundation Center merged with both now operating under the Candid umbrella. GuideStar offers data with profiles on nonprofits, financials and performance metrics while Foundation Center focuses on providing information to grantmaking organizations, funding opportunities, and tools for connecting nonprofits with potential funders.
