The production has a special connection to Marshall, bringing together several artists with ties to the university and its theatre program.
The play is directed by Courtney Susman-Frye, artistic director of Greenbrier Valley Theatre and an alumna of the Marshall University School of Theatre & Dance. Ethan Lyvers, also an alumnus of Marshall’s theatre program, portrays Mitch, while Jack Cirillo, professor of theatre and director of Marshall’s School of Theatre & Dance, takes on the role of Morrie.
Based on Mitch Albom’s bestselling memoir, “Tuesdays with Morrie” was adapted for the stage by Jeffrey Hatcher and Albom. The play follows Mitch, a successful journalist who reconnects with his former college professor, Morrie Schwartz, who is facing a terminal illness. Their Tuesday visits become a series of conversations about friendship, love, loss and what it means to live a meaningful life.

“Tuesdays with Morrie” runs Aug. 28 through Sept. 12 at Greenbrier Valley Theatre in Lewisburg, West Virginia.
The Sept. 9 Huntington performance is presented through a partnership between Greenbrier Valley Theatre, Marshall University School of Theatre & Dance and the Marshall Artists Series.
Tickets for the Huntington performance, planned for 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 9, are available through Ticketmaster or can be purchased at the Box Office of the Joan C. Edwards Performance Center beginning at 1 p.m. Sept. 2.
