Marshall University to kick off Homecoming Week activities with Unity Walk

Share
Marshall University will celebrate school spirit, unity and tradition during its annual Unity Walk on Monday, Sept. 21, as part of the university’s Homecoming Week activities.

The event will get underway at 4 p.m. at Marshall’s Recreation Center, where student organizations will display banners reflecting their creativity, unity and interpretation of the Homecoming theme, “80s Echoes: Come Back Curious!” The theme honors the nostalgic world of 1980s mysteries and celebrates Joe Chrest, a 1986 Marshall University graduate and actor in the Netflix series “Stranger Things.”

Following the banner contest judging, the Unity Walk will begin at 5 p.m. Participants will travel along separate routes on Third and Fifth avenues before converging at the Old Main entrance and continuing together to the Memorial Student Center Plaza.

At the conclusion of the walk, Brianna Ellis, director of women’s basketball operations, will deliver the keynote address, followed by the announcement of Homecoming Court attendants. The celebration will conclude with food and music on the plaza.

The event is free and open to the public. Media are invited and encouraged to attend.
