Through the Direct Admit program, eligible high school seniors are automatically admitted to Marshall based on established academic criteria, removing barriers in the traditional admissions process and providing early clarity about their college plans. The initiative is designed to simplify next steps for students and families while reinforcing Marshall’s commitment to regional access and student success.
The Marshall Direct Admit program will benefit students at Van High School, Scott High School, Sherman High School, and Boone Career and Technical Center.
“Boone County Schools enthusiastically welcomes our new partnership with Marshall University through its Marshall Direct program,” said Boone County Schools Superintendent Allen Sexton. “This partnership represents another meaningful step toward expanding opportunities for our students and removing barriers that may stand between them and higher education. We believe every student deserves a clear pathway to success, whether that leads to college, a career, or another meaningful pursuit. By simplifying the college admissions process and helping students recognize that higher education is within their reach, we are empowering them to make informed, confident decisions about their futures. We are grateful to Marshall University for its continued commitment to opening doors, removing obstacles, and creating meaningful opportunities for students throughout West Virginia, including those right here in Boone County.”
Matthew Stollings, director of attendance and secondary education at Boone County Schools, is pleased with the new partnership.
“Our students are incredibly talented and have so much potential to make a positive impact in their communities and beyond. Providing them with direct access to higher education opportunities helps them recognize their abilities, see that college is an achievable goal, and envision the many possibilities available to them after high school,” Stollings said.
Marshall’s Direct Admit program reflects the university’s broader strategy to strengthen partnerships with area school districts and expand college-going opportunities throughout the region. By proactively identifying eligible students and providing early admission, the university aims to increase college access, reduce uncertainty, and encourage students to envision themselves on a clear path to earning a degree.
“Marshall is committed to breaking down barriers and ensuring that every student who wants a college education has a pathway to pursue it,” said Jerry Ross, Marshall’s chief enrollment officer. “Partnering with Boone County Schools reinforces our belief that opportunity should never depend on geography or circumstance. We’re proud to make the next step in education more seamless for these students and their families.”
