Marshall to present exhibit by art students

Share
The Marshall University School of Art & Design will present “Made By Real Humans: Selected Foundations Works,” an exhibition showcasing outstanding pieces by students who have recently completed the Foundations program and review process.

The exhibition will be on view Nov. 16 through Dec. 4 in the Birke Art Gallery, located in the Visual Arts Center at 927 Third Ave. in downtown Huntington. A reception is planned for 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18. Awards will be announced at 5:30 p.m.

Curated by SOAD faculty, this exhibition brings together standout works created by students completing the foundations curriculum and review process, celebrating the care and craft behind every piece.

Composed of a series of classes designed to give students a solid background in the visual arts, the Foundation Program’s goal is to prepare students for whatever artistic path they choose to pursue. Instructors help guide beginning students toward an understanding of the language used to see, discuss, and create art.

“Through the Foundations Program, students explore core concepts and master early 2D and 3D techniques,” said Gallery Director Sophia Celdrán. “They learn to think critically and creatively tackle any challenge that’s thrown at them.”

The exhibit and reception are free and open to all.

Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Admission to the gallery and all events are free and open to the public.
