Marshall University’s Department of History will host a memorial lecture honoring the late Dr. David Woodward, emeritus professor of history, at 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12, in the Shawkey Room of the Memorial Student Center.
Dr. Mark Tauger, associate professor emeritus at West Virginia University, will present “Famine in the Russian Empire and in the Soviet Union: Causes and Responses.”
The lecture will honor Woodward’s contributions to the study and teaching of history at Marshall. His scholarship focused on World War I and the Soviet Union, among other areas, and during his distinguished career at Marshall, he authored eight books and received the West Virginia Professor of the Year Award.
Woodward’s wife, Martha Woodward, a longtime contributor to Huntington’s cultural and intellectual life, and other members of the Woodward family are expected to attend the lecture.
The lecture is free and open to the public.
