Registration open for Marshall University’s 2027 High School Science Day

Share
High School students and teachers from across the region are invited to register for the Marshall University 2027 High School Science Day, scheduled for Monday, April 12, on the university’s Huntington campus. Hosted by the College of Science and organized by Dr. Sean P. McBride, associate professor in the Department of Mathematics and Physics, the event promises to be an exciting day of hands-on learning.

The annual, FREE event, supported by funding from the NASA West Virginia Space Grant Consortium, will offer students an opportunity to explore science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) through interactive demonstrations, hands-on activities and opportunities to learn more about pursuing STEM-related degrees and careers.

High School Science Day is designed for students interested in STEM fields who are considering attending college. The event will feature a variety of activities including STEM focused demonstrations, including a scanning electron microscope, a portable planetarium, liquid nitrogen ice cream and an interactive lunchtime game with prizes. Marshall University admissions representatives will also be available to speak with students about academic programs and opportunities at the university. Regional STEM focused companies valuing students graduating with a STEM focused college education are also encouraged to register for the event and provide a STEM focused, company based, demonstration where they can interact with students discussing future careers.

“High School Science Day is a great opportunity for students to experience science in a fun, engaging way and see how the concepts they’re learning in the classroom connect to the world around them,” McBride said. “We’re excited to welcome students from across the region to campus, introduce them to the possibilities of studying STEM at Marshall and hopefully inspire the next generation of scientists and innovators.”

The event is expected to run from 10 a.m. to approximately 1:30 p.m., with additional activities potentially available for local schools before or after the main event. Contact Dr. McBride to find out more about sponsored lunch options and capacities for participating students and teachers.

Teachers and school representatives interested in bringing students are encouraged to RSVP as early as possible to assist with planning and lunch arrangements. Coarsely estimated attendance numbers are welcome, and schools may update their RSVPs as the event approaches.

Advance registration is required. Additional information and registration is available by emailing McBride at mcbrides@marshall.edu.

The 2027 High School Science Day is funded by the NASA West Virginia Space Grant Consortium as a NASA Day event under Grant No. 80NSSC25M7079.
