Cypress band members, all Marshall alumni, said they’re honored to be back home in Huntington to share an evening of music with the Marshall University community, adding, “With one foot in the old-time Appalachia that we know so well, and one in the classical tradition that brought them together, Cypress is excited to bring you a memorable and meaningful evening of music.”
The classically trained musicians hope to give audience members an exciting and unique mix of folk and country stylings, alongside playing and singing, which is deeply rooted in the classical tradition. Their program will feature re-imagined covers of popular tunes, original songs and additional performances by current students in Marshall University’s School of Music.
Art Song is where poetry and music meet in a true partnership, said Dr. Carline Waugh of the School of Music. This recital invites listeners to experience the beauty and storytelling of Schubert’s music.
“Franz Shubert songs are considered the great cornerstone of 19th century German Lieder, and our upperclassmen will explore his expressive melodies that eloquently capture themes like love, longing, and joy,” Waugh said. “Whether you are a longtime classical music lover or attending your first recital, these intimate musical stories offer something to connect with and enjoy.”
