All participating students secured full-time, yearlong internships in mental health settings across the country, marking a key milestone in their clinical training.
“This is the final training experience for our students before they graduate, similar to a physician completing residency,” said Dr. Keith Beard, Psy.D. program director. “Our students have already completed three yearlong practicums in our campus clinic, community settings and integrated primary care. Now they will represent Marshall nationwide as they complete their internships.”
More than 4,200 applicants nationwide competed for pre-doctoral internship positions this year.
“The fact that we had 100% of our students match to an internship site speaks to the strength of our training program and the quality of our students,” Beard said. “It is an impressive accomplishment and one Marshall can be proud of.”
Marshall’s Psy.D. program, which welcomed its first class in 2002 and earned accreditation from the American Psychological Association in 2006, is among a select group of programs nationwide focused on training psychologists to serve rural, underserved and marginalized populations.
