Zach Garrett, D.S.C. (left), of the Marshall University athletic training program and Matthew Christiansen, M.D., M.P.H., of the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine have been named to The State Journal’s 2021 Generation Next, 40 Under 40.

The National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (National NSSLHA) has awarded the NSSLHA chapter at Marshall University with 2021 Bronze Chapter Honors.

Students in Marshall University’s athletic training program were recognized for their first-place win in the 2021 West Virginia Athletic Trainers’ Association (WVATA) Quiz Bowl competition held last month.

Marshall University nursing students have been on the front line of the COVID-19 vaccination clinics this winter. With a need for those qualified to give the vaccine, Marshall administration looked to its most qualified students, nursing students in the College of Health Professions.

Dr. Zach Garrett, program director of the Marshall University athletic training program, was given the 2021 Emerging Leader Award by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) State Association Advisory Committee.

Marshall University’s Exercise Science department is offering a free Valentine’s Day event on Sunday, Feb. 14– the second annual Sweat-Heart Couples’ Walk. The department, along with the program Exercise is Medicine®, is hosting the virtual event. They’re encouraging couples to walk together, socially distanced of course, and rack up the most steps.

Marshall University’s School of Physical Therapy, in an effort to provide physical therapy to patients who might not otherwise receive it, has started a pro bono clinic for area residents.

The American Electric Power (AEP) Foundation has awarded $50,000 to the Huntington Scottish Rite Foundation in support of Marshall University’s Department of Communication Disorders and its Speech and Hearing Center.

The Marshall University Nutrition Education Program will host an online Holiday Food Safety event at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11. It is free and open to all.

Dr. Yi-Po Chiu, director of admissions and associate professor in Marshall University’s School of Physical Therapy, has successfully completed the American Physical Therapy Association’s (APTA) Fellowship in Education Leadership.
