Marshall University will welcome 65 rising ninth-grade students from around the entire state of West Virginia next week for its annual Health Science and Technology Academy (HSTA) Summer Institute, “Fun with Science.”

Following approval from the Marshall University Board of Governors during its summer meeting today at Glade Springs Resort, the university is a step closer to takeoff for its aviation degree programs.

The Scottish Rite Foundation Inc. and its masons will host the 4th annual RiteCare Motorcycle Benefit Ride Saturday, July 13, beginning at Black Sheep Harley-Davidson and ending at Milton VFW Post #9796.

Pam Holland, director of clinical education for Marshall University’s Department of Communication Disorders, has received board certification in swallowing and swallowing disorders (BCS-S), making her the only swallowing specialist in West Virginia certified by the American Board of Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders. Holland, a speech-language pathologist (SLP) in the university’s Speech and Hearing Center, said she has been working on this certification for four years.

Representatives from the Marshall University School of Physical Therapy presented research last month at the World Confederation for Physical Therapy (WCPT) held in Geneva, Switzerland, May 10-13, 2019.

Marshall University communication disorders student Jessica Sayre was recently awarded a statewide scholarship from the West Virginia Speech Language Hearing (WVSH) Foundation. The scholarship, valued at $1,000, was awarded to one student at Marshall and one student at West Virginia University.

Marshall University will mark its 182nd commencement with two separate ceremonies Saturday, May 11, at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena and Convention Center.
