Marshall University’s John Sammons, director of the digital forensics and information assurance program in the College of Science, will participate in a panel discussion at the 2019 West Virginia Coding and Cyber Summit, which goes on from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, at Embassy Suites Hotel in Charleston.

Marshall University will host a NASA astronaut and a NASA solar systems ambassador Nov. 7-8 to speak as part of the 2019 meeting of the Appalachian American Association of Physics Teachers (A-AAPT 2019), which goes on Thursday-Saturday, Nov. 7-9, on the Huntington campus.

Josh Brunty, associate professor of digital forensics and information assurance in Marshall’s College of Science, and Nicole Odom, a Marshall forensic science alumna, will give a presentation on Smartwatch Forensics at the 10th Annual Open Source Digital Forensics Conference (OSDFCon) Oct. 16 in Reston, Virginia.

Marshall University will host the 2019 Meeting of the Appalachian American Association of Physics Teachers (A-AAPT 2019) Thursday-Saturday, Nov. 7-9, on the Huntington campus. It is open to students and high school teachers from throughout the region.

Marshall University’s John Sammons, director of the digital forensics and information assurance program in the College of Science, has been invited to speak at the 28th Annual Regional Organized Crime Information Center (ROCIC) Homicide Conference, which is underway until Sept. 11 in Little Rock, Arkansas. His talk is titled “Vehicle Forensics: The Road Ahead.”

Marshall University was among four universities recognized this month for longtime participation in the Black Hat Conference Associate program.

Marshall University has joined in partnership with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the investigative arm of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), to leverage resources to combat the opioid epidemic.

Professor Emeritus Dr. Gary D. Anderson of Marshall University’s Department of Chemistry was named a Fellow with the American Chemical Society and will be recognized at the society’s fall national meeting in San Diego in August. The ACS Fellows program honors members for outstanding achievements in and contributions to science, the profession and the society.

Following approval from the Marshall University Board of Governors during its summer meeting today at Glade Springs Resort, the university is a step closer to takeoff for its aviation degree programs.
