In what is believed to be a first at the West Virginia Business Plan Competition finals, Marshall University students Aaron Simon and Ashley Hoskins finished first in the Lifestyle and Innovation category at the competition held in Fairmont, West Virginia, and hosted by the BrickStreet Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at West Virginia University.

Voice students from School of Music at Marshall University participated in the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Eastern Region Conference and Student Auditions, held at Nazareth College in Rochester, New York, March 15-17.

James B. Becker, M.D., vice dean for government relations, health care policy and external affairs for the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine and an associate professor in the department of family and community health, has been named the 25th Distinguished John Deaver Drinko Academy Fellow at Marshall University.

Dr. Joseph Beckett has been named to the 2019 class of the Mid-Atlantic Athletic Trainers’ Association (MAATA) Hall of Fame, which is the highest award presented by the MAATA. Beckett is the third person from West Virginia ever selected for the MAATA Hall of Fame and the first from Marshall University.

Gary O. Rankin, Ph.D., a professor and vice dean for basic sciences at the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, has been named the recipient of the 2019 Career Award from the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (ASPET) Division for Toxicology.

A Marshall University senior has won a Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship to study abroad. Gilman Scholars receive up to $5,000 to apply towards their study abroad or internship program costs, with additional funding available for the study of a critical language overseas.

Dr. Marianna Footo-Linz, chair of the Department of Psychology in Marshall’s College of Liberal Arts, has received the Cynthia D. Belar Education Advocacy Distinguished Service Award from the American Psychological Association Board of Educational Affairs.
