Marshall University today released the following statements regarding the passing of the institution’s 11th president, Dr. Robert B. Hayes:

The Board of Governors of Marshall University today approved the university’s operating budget for the fiscal year that begins July 1.

Due to the ongoing power outage, all classes on the Huntington campus are cancelled for the remainder of today, Friday, Feb. 16.

Marshall University will be operating on a Delay Code B schedule on Thursday, Jan. 18, to allow grounds crews extra time to treat university parking lots and sidewalks. The two-hour delay is for both classes and offices, and affects all the university’s campuses and centers.

Putnam County Schools are closed today (Monday, Jan. 8); no classes for Teays Valley Regional Center tonight.

The Society for Classical Studies has presented Marshall University Associate Professor Dr. E. Del Chrol with its Award for Excellence in Teaching of Classics at the college level. His teaching features “a deep commitment to and patent skills in pedagogy, conceived very broadly, including also a wide range of presentations on pedagogical issues,” as noted by the society.

Consistent with 17th-Century West African traditions, Marshall University will have a Christmas Kente Ceremony Friday, Dec. 15. Traditionally presented for students of African African American ancestry, this is an inclusive ceremony open to all students graduating in December.

Dr. Kelli Prejean, associate professor of English and winner of the 2017 Marshall and Shirley Reynolds Outstanding Teacher Award, will be the featured speaker at Marshall’s winter commencement ceremony Saturday, Dec. 16.

George M. Yousef, M.D., has been selected as the September Fellow of the Month at the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, announced Paulette S. Wehner, M.D., vice dean for graduate medical education.
