It takes a team to keep our campus clean!

International Housekeepers & Environmental Services Week is September 12-15, 2022. Each year, we dedicate our efforts to recognize our “unsung heroes” who work hard to make our campus shine. Let’s let them know how much we appreciate them!

Honoring the Heroes of Housekeeping & Environmental Services

Want to do something special for those who help keep Marshall clean or green? Do you have a special housekeeper in your building or on your floor? We encourage all of our campus community members to take time during the week of September 12-15 to do something thoughtful for those who work hard year-round to help Marshall shine.

If you know of a special housekeeper, grounds crew or environmental staff member, send a couple of sentences about why they’re special to Melanie Whitt at melanie.whitt@marshall.edu. If you can, snap a selfie and send that, too! We will highlight those who are recognized during International Housekeepers & Environmental Services Week.

Other Ideas on How to Honor Your Housekeeper or Grounds/Sustainability Staff:

  • Take 5 minutes to write a note of appreciation.
  • Join with others in your department to purchase a gift for your designated housekeeper (Limit to $25).
  • Pick up after yourself. We know that your office can get a little messy, so why not take this week to clean up after yourself so they don’t have to? You may also take initiative to throw any trash away that you see on campus.
  • Take a moment to stop and talk to them. Ask them about their day, why they do what they do and how you can make their jobs easier. They have some of the dirtiest jobs on campus (quite literally) and we should appreciate the effort they put forth to keep this campus clean and beautiful.
