June 9th-13th: Physics & Math – $250: Register Here
Get ready for a week of hands-on exploration where physics and math come alive! You’ll launch rockets, design egg-saving contraptions, and craft your own musical instruments—all while uncovering the fascinating forces behind motion, sound, and energy. Then, dive into the playful side of math through puzzles, games, and challenges that reveal the patterns hidden in everyday life. Whether you’re solving the mystery of chicken nugget combinations, outsmarting friends in strategy games, or figuring out how to guard an art gallery, you’ll use creativity, teamwork, and critical thinking to see just how fun STEM can be!
June 30th-July 3rd: Exploring Animal Behavior – $200 Register Here
This exciting hands-on camp is all about discovering the fascinating ways animals interact with their environment—and with each other. You’ll dive into the secret world of animal instincts and behaviors through fun, engaging activities. Get up close with wild birds! We’ll observe their behavior in real time and explore morphology by measuring and comparing the shapes and sizes of body parts—using both live and preserved bird specimens. We also will welcome you to our legendary Fruit Fly Lab! Join us for fun experiments and observations in the lab, where you’ll study the tiny but mighty fruit fly. These little creatures are key to understanding behavior and physiology—and they’re fun to work with, too. You’ll get hands-on experience observing and recording traits, feeding the flies, and discovering how they help scientists explore the natural world. (Note: This session will focus on physiology and behavior rather than genetics, as breeding takes more time than we have during the camp.)
July 14th-18th: Nature HERDventure Camp – $250 Register Here
Get ready to explore the wild side of science at Nature HERDventure Camp! Each day brings a new adventure into the natural world as campers investigate plants, animals, soils, water, and human impacts on our environment. Through hands-on experiments, field activities, and exciting discoveries, students will dive into the ecosystems around them just like real scientists. Led by Marshall University’s Natural Resources and Earth Sciences faculty, this camp is perfect for curious minds who love the outdoors, getting muddy, and learning how nature works. Join the HERD and embark on a scientific journey through Earth’s amazing systems!
July 28th-August 1st: Chemistry & Microbiology – $250 Register Here
Get ready to dive into the incredible world of microbes, chemistry, and the amazing tardigrades—also known as water bears! Billions of organisms exist that you cannot see, and they reside in every environment on Earth. In this hands-on camp, you’ll explore tiny creatures that live all around us, from bacteria to fungi, and even the extremotolerant tardigrade! Through exciting experiments and activities, you’ll learn how chemistry and microbiology come together to shape life at the smallest scale. We’ll explore the “invisible” world around us and learn about extremotolerants, those organisms that can survive extreme environments of outer space, high pressures, and low temperatures like those as in Antarctica. Whether you’re curious about the invisible creatures around us or love experimenting with cool science, this camp is packed with fun discoveries and hands-on learning that will make you see the world in a whole new way!
