This area of emphasis within the Elementary Education B.A. program is designed for those interested in teaching students in kindergarten through sixth grade. Students receive broad content knowledge in the core academic areas as well as in the art and science of teaching children. The curriculum covers teaching reading and language arts, mathematics, social studies science, art, music and a comprehensive list of other courses related to teaching skills and knowledge.

Excellence in Teacher Training

Marshall has a long history of teacher preparation for those who wish to teach at the elementary school level. We have been training teachers since the 1860s. You will be working with caring faculty members who have been in the classroom and will help you develop the skills you need.

Accredited Programs

Marshall’s teacher education programs are fully accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP, formerly known as NCATE). This means you are assured that we have gone through a rigorous process that includes on-site reviews by a team of experts in the field of education.

This course allows elementary education students to critically examine a variety of classroom management strategies and educational issues that impact instruction.

CI 321 - ECE Curr and Methods

Study of factors shaping curriculum and exploration and assessment of appropriate curriculum for young children in transition from pre-operational to concrete operational stages of development. Field experience included.

CI 405 - Student Teaching-Elem Ed (Capstone)

All-day teaching under supervision in cooperating schools; periodic seminars, conducted by University faculty, accompany student teaching.
