Program Overview

The Master’s of Science and Dietetic Internship at Marshall University is housed within the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics of the College of Health Professions. The Department strives to deliver the highest quality dietetics education utilizing all available resources to meet the needs of dietetics professionals in this rural region. The dietetic internship is a combined program with the Master’s of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics. To complete dietetic internship requirements, students are required to complete 36 hours of graduate credit.

The Marshall University Dietetic Internship faculty are fully committed to giving you the support and mentorship you need to be a confident entry-level RDN. The Dietetic Internship’s mission is to develop successful, entry-level Registered Dietitian Nutritionists who are able to promote optimal nutrition and health to individuals, groups, and communities by providing a variety of nutrition experiences in urban and rural areas. The Internship is a post-baccalaureate program providing students with the supervised practice experience required for eligibility to become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN). Marshall’s MS/DI is a post-baccalaureate program providing students with the supervised practice experience and coursework required for eligibility to become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).

Employment of dietitians is expected to grow faster than the average for all occupations through 2032. Dietitians specialize in food and nutrition in a variety of settings. They assess nutritional needs, provide education, plan food and nutrition programs, and promote healthy eating habits recommending dietary modifications.
