Video is a medium that continues to grow in popularity across multiple channels and platforms. Videos provide exciting and imaginative ways to tell stories across the fields of entertainment, fine arts, marketing, sports and more.
Students at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia, learn vital skills and also develop their own talents in Marshall’s Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Video Production degree program.
Video Production courses in cinematography/photography, writing, acting, directing, audio production/mixing and post-production, along with internships, prepare students for successful future careers. The degree in Video Production program is interdisciplinary, drawing from diverse research and techniques in order to shape and deliver creative content, ranging from the vision of the experimental auteur to the messages of documentary journalism.
Video Production majors gain technical instruction in conjunction with studying theory and practice and are ready to produce compelling media content with high production values. Students develop technical and critical-thinking skills through journalistic and artistic video production that’s relevant across an expanding media market.
Students with a BA in Video Production can seek positions such as director, producer, camera person, sound recordist, digital artist, independent filmmaker, even running a production company. A Video Production bachelor’s degree prepares students to make narrative films, documentaries, experimental pieces, commercials and many other aspects of producing video.

Being part of the College of Arts and Media (CAM) offers Video Production majors exciting opportunities to pursue their talents and express their creativity.
Students create cutting-edge electronic media productions with current technology in state-of-the-art facilities. Above all, they study alongside exceptional faculty members and mentors who are renowned in their fields.
Overall employment of film and video editors and camera operators is projected to grow 18 percent through 2029, much faster than the average for all occupations, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The number of Internet-only platforms, such as streaming services, is likely to increase, along with the number of shows produced for these platforms. This growth may lead to more work for editors and camera operators.
Given the interdisciplinary nature of Video Production, the major draws from courses and resources across the College of Arts and Media to ensure student success.
The Communications Building on Marshall’s main campus houses a TV studio, computer labs and a sound studio.
The Visual Arts Center is the home of the School of Art and Design and houses a lighting studio and most of the video production equipment used in the program. It’s located at 927 Third Ave. in downtown Huntington.
