1. Have a dedicated study space
Setting up a dedicated workspace in your home is key for online learning. It’s important you have a quiet place to minimize distractions and create a routine. It signals to your brain that it’s time to focus on schoolwork and trains your brain to go into learning mode.
2. Get to know your professors
Your professors have available office hours each week and are available by phone and email. Be sure to check your syllabus for that information and reach out to introduce yourself. Your professors care and are eager to help you understand the course material, so take the time to get to know them.
3. Always read the syllabus
This will provide you with an expectation of the time expectation of each of your courses. Reading the syllabus also provides information on essential course policies and resources, so be sure not to skip any of the info.
4. Understand the technology
Marshall Online courses are hosted on Blackboard. You’ll use it to access course content, participate in discussion, complete assignments and take exams. The IT team provides support for technical issues related to accessing courses, so reach out if you need help.
5. Know where to go for help
There are resources available to online students to help you succeed in and out of the classroom. If you need assistance, email the Online Student Engagement Team at online@marshall.edu and we’ll help you get the most out of your online student experience.
