International Transfer Students

Welcome to Marshall University!

We enroll more than 14,000 students (10,000 undergraduate and 4,000 graduate and medical and professional students), including about 500 international students from more than 60 countries.

If you have previously been enrolled at another college or university, and now want to transfer to pursue your degree in the United States at Marshall University, you can apply to be an international transfer student at Marshall. After you apply and are admitted to Marshall, please complete the Enrollment Checklist to become an international Marshall transfer student.

Review Admission Requirements and Apply

We’ve outlined what you need to do to apply for admission to Marshall University as an international transfer student. Follow all the steps below to complete our undergraduate admission process to be admitted as an international transfer student.

Check the following application deadlines for international student applications, before you apply and complete your application for admission.

June 15: For students applying to the fall semester, beginning in August
October 15: For students applying to the spring semester, beginning in January
March 15: For students applying to the summer term

Your completed application must be accompanied by the $150 USD application fee and $50 USD transfer evaluation fee. This fee is non-refundable, even in the event a student is not accepted or does not obtain a student visa. If you have ever enrolled at any university or college, you must apply as a transfer student and pay the application fee and transfer evaluation fee.

You can also pay the application fee and transfer evaluation fee with a credit card by calling the Office of Admissions at 304-696-4304. A 2.5% processing fee, per transaction, will be required to make payment by credit card. Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express credit cards are accepted.

Please be sure to review all required documents to apply for admission that must be sent to Marshall, along with your completed online application. In addition to your passport, required documents include:

Official transcripts from all universities attended
Proof of English Proficiency (61 TOEFL, 6.0 IELTS)
Proof of MMR vaccination
Official proof of secondary school completion (for applicants with less than 30 semester hours of transferrable credit)
After you submit your completed undergraduate transfer application, transfer evaluation fee, and all required documents for international transfer student admission, we will review your file and notify you with an admission decision.

Admission Requirements

Freshmen

  • Equivalent of U.S. high school diploma
  • International GPA requirements are equivalent to domestic GPA requirements and vary by program
  • ACT/SAT required for some programs and merit-based scholarships
  • Proof of English Proficiency (61 TOEFL, 6.0 IELTS)

Transfer

  • Must be eligible to return to the last institution attended
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0
  • Applicants with less than 30 semester hours of transfer credit must meet freshman requirements
  • Proof of English Proficiency (61 TOEFL, 6.0 IELTS)

Application Deadlines

International applicants must submit ALL required documents by the following deadlines to be considered for admission:

  • Spring Semester – October 15
  • Summer semester – March 15
  • Fall semester – June 15

Application Process

  1. Submit the International Application for Undergraduate Admission and required application fees.  The $150 international application fee applies to all international undergraduate applications.  International transfer applications also require the $50 transfer evaluation fee.  If a representative is assisting with the application process, submit the Application Cover Sheet.
  2. Request all requested official credentials be sent directly to the Office of International Student Services.  See Submitting Official Credential Policy
  3. If you would like to grant information access to a representative, friend, or family member, complete the Student Information Access Form.
  4. Once all requested credentials are received, wait for an admission decision.  Admission letters will be sent to the student email address provided on the application.

Official Credential Policy

Official credentials are received by the MU admissions office directly from the issuing examination board or records office. Student copies of transcripts, evaluations, faxed copies of college transcripts, or credentials issued to any party other than Marshall University are not considered official.

After Admission

Once the application, application fee, and all requested credentials are received, an admission decision will be made within 2-3 business days. Students will receive email notification of the admission decision with any additional steps for full admission and receiving a Form I-20 or DS-2019. To receive an I-20, students must submit all required admission materials, enrollment deposit, proof of financial support, and a copy of the passport. Additional documents may be requested for students requesting Forms I-20 for dependents or transferring a SEVIS record to Marshall University.
