Biography
Lakan Sheets is the Assistant Director of Operations at Marshall University’s Institute for Cyber Security, where she coordinates operations across the Institute’s programs, outreach, partnerships, training and external engagements.
Lakan has led the development of workforce-aligned cybersecurity microcredentials across healthcare, public health, critical infrastructure, digital forensics, and applied AI. She has also led cybersecurity tabletop exercises (TTXs) for healthcare and public health organizations and supports cybersecurity training, conferences and student professional development.
Prior to her current role, Lakan served as the Institute’s Partnership & Engagement Lead and as a Cyber Forensics Instructor & Researcher. Her healthcare cybersecurity experience also includes her work with the West Virginia Health Information Network, where she supported risk assessment, information security policy development and HIPAA Security Rule compliance efforts. She also led an executive tabletop exercise focused on healthcare incident response and organizational preparedness.
Lakan is also an adjunct instructor in Marshall University’s Lewis College of Business. She serves as a faculty advisor for Marshall University’s Women in CyberSecurity (WiCyS) student chapter and as a VICEROY advisor.
Lakan holds a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences, with minors in Communication Disorders, Communication Studies and Psychology, and a Master of Science in Cyber Forensics and Security from Marshall University. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Healthcare Cybersecurity at Capitol Technology University.
