Alice Gorton Profile

Alice Gorton (Ph.D., Columbia University) specializes in modern British imperial and environmental history, with interests in political economy, settler colonialism, and the distribution of natural resources. She is currently working on a book about Indigenous dispossession and agricultural land in nineteenth-century settler states. Her writing has appeared (or is forthcoming) in Modern British History, Environmental History, BC Studies, and NiCHE, among other outlets. Before coming to Marshall, she held a postdoctoral fellowship on the theme of Hunger at Rutgers University’s Center for Cultural Analysis. She teaches on topics including the British empire, climate and environmental change, and food history.
